Instrument panel Nissan Almera - this is your main assistant in monitoring the condition of the car. Everyone icon or indicator signals a specific situation: from a banal need to refuel to serious engine or braking system malfunctions. However, not all drivers know what this or that symbol means, especially if it lights up for the first time.
In this article we will look at all icons on the panel Nissan Almera (including G15, N18 and B17 models), we will explain their meaning, tell you what actions need to be taken, and in which cases an urgent visit to the service is required. You will also learn how to reset errors yourself and what indicators may appear after unsuccessful chip tuning or battery replacement.
We will pay special attention icons that are often confused with each other (for example, ABS and ESP), as well as rare indicators that appear only in emergency situations. At the end of the article there is a FAQ with answers to the most frequently asked questions from owners. Almera.
Main groups of icons on the panel Nissan Almera
All indicators on the dashboard Nissan Almera can be divided into 4 categories:
- 🔴 Critical - require immediate shutdown (for example, oil pressure or engine overheating).
- 🟡 Warning — signal a malfunction, but allow you to get to the service station (for example, an ABS error or low fuel level).
- 🟢 Information — notify about enabled functions (dimensions, high beam, cruise control).
- 🔵 Service — remind you about scheduled maintenance or reset the service interval.
The color of the icon is the first guideline for the driver. For example, red oil indicator means you need turn off the engine immediately, whereas yellow Check Engine Icon allows you to continue driving, but requires diagnosis in the near future.
On models Almera G15 (2012–2018) and Almera N18 (2019–present) the location of the icons may differ slightly, but their meaning remains identical. B Almera Classic (B17) The instrument panel is simpler, but critical indicators (oil, temperature, charging) are always present.
- Only if the light turns red
- I check all indicators regularly
- Just before the trip
- I don't pay attention if the car drives fine
Critical Icons: When to Stop
These indicators cannot be ignored. Their appearance means that further movement may lead to serious breakdown or accident.
| Icon | Description | Actions |
|---|---|---|
| 🚨 Red oil can | Low engine oil pressure | Immediately stop the engine and check the oil level. If the level is normal, do not start the car, call a tow truck. |
| 🔥 Thermometer in water | Engine overheating (temperature above 120°C) | Stop, turn off the engine, check the coolant level. Do not open the expansion tank cap on a hot engine! |
| 🔋 Battery | No charging from generator | Check the alternator belt and fuses. If the icon does not go out, take a tow truck or tow truck to the service center. |
| 🛑 Red exclamation mark in a circle | Brake system malfunction (low fluid level or hydraulic failure) | Stop and check the brake fluid level. If the brake pedal becomes soft, do not continue driving! |
On Nissan Almera with automatic transmission icon may light up gears with exclamation mark (🚗⚠️). This indicates a faulty automatic transmission. In this case:
- 🔹 Stop and move the selector to
P. - 🔹 Check the oil level in the automatic transmission (if you know how to do it).
- 🔹 Don't continue driving - call a tow truck.
⚠️ Attention: If the panel lights up red oil icon and at the same time the pressure dropped (arrow at zero), even a fraction of a second of engine operation without oil will lead to scuffing on the crankshaft and major repairs. Don't take risks!
Warning icons: when to act
Yellow indicators indicate faults that require attention, but do not always mean that the machine cannot be used. However, you should not ignore them for long.
The most common yellow icons on Nissan Almera:
- 🔧 Check Engine (check engine) - can indicate hundreds of problems: from a faulty oxygen sensor to misfires. Diagnostics with a scanner is required (for example,
ELM327). - 🚗 ABS — malfunction of the anti-lock braking system. The brakes will work, but without ABS. Often the sensor on the hub is to blame.
- 🌀 ESP/BAS — problems with the directional stability system. It may light up if the wiring is broken or the rotation angle sensor is faulty.
- ⚡ Lightning in a circle — malfunction of the electric power steering. The steering wheel will become heavier, but control will remain.
On Almera N18 with the system NissanConnect icon may appear antennas with exclamation point (📡⚠️). This indicates problems with the connection or telematics module. Rebooting the system usually helps (disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes).
Check the gas cap (may not be tightly closed)
Fill with high-quality fuel (if you recently filled in the left one)
Check the spark plug wires (for breakdown)
Connect diagnostic scanner to read error codes -->
If the icon appears on the panel yellow with an image of an engine and a wavy line (🚗💨), this indicates problems with the intake or exhaust system. Most often to blame:
- 🔹 Clogged air filter
- 🔹 Faulty valve
EGR - 🔹 Problems with the turbine (on Almera 1.5 dCi)
⚠️ Attention: If after washing the engine or heavy rain the Check Engine and the car started to shake, most likely water got into the sensor connectors. Dry them with a hairdryer (without overheating!) or contact service.
Information icons: what do they mean?
These indicators do not signal malfunctions, but simply inform the driver about the enabled functions or operating modes of the vehicle.
On Nissan Almera You can find the following information icons:
- 💡 Green light bulb — side lights are on.
- 🔦 Blue high beam — the high beam headlights are on.
- 🌊 green wave — The heated windshield is turned on.
- 🔄 Green cruise control — cruise control activated (on models with
ProPilot). - 🚪 Open door or hood - signals that a door or hood is not completely closed.
On Almera N18 with digital dashboard Some icons may appear as animations. For example, when you turn on Hill Start Assist (HSA) icon will appear on the screen cars on the slope (🚗↗️).
If the icon on the panel lights up key with exclamation mark (🔑⚠️), this means that:
- 🔹 A non-standard key was inserted (for example, a duplicate without a chip).
- 🔹 The battery in the key fob is dead
Nissan Intelligent Key. - 🔹 An immobilizer error has occurred (key retraining required).
If on Almera After replacing the battery, all the icons on the panel light up, don’t panic. This is a normal reaction of the ECU to a power reset. Turn off the car, remove the key, then start it again - most of the lights will go out.
Service icons and reminders
These indicators are not associated with malfunctions, but only remind you of scheduled maintenance or reset intervals.
On Nissan Almera You can see the following service icons:
- 🔧 Wrench — reminder of scheduled maintenance (oil change, filters, etc.).
- 🛢️ Oiler with drop - It's time to change the engine oil.
- 🔋 Battery with zipper — it is recommended to check the condition of the battery (on models with a system
i-Key). - 🚘 Machine with wrench - Brake pads or discs need to be replaced.
On Almera G15 Service intervals are reset manually via the on-board computer:
- Turn on the ignition (do not start the engine).
- Press and hold the daily mileage reset button.
- Turn the key to position
ONand hold the button for 10 seconds until the indicator starts flashing. - Release the button and the icon will go out.
On Almera N18 with multimedia system NissanConnect Resetting the service interval is done through the menu:
Настройки → Обслуживание автомобиля → Сброс интервала ТО
⚠️ Attention: If after resetting the service interval the icon wrench remains on, this may indicate an error in the control unit. Try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes or contact your dealer to reflash it.
What happens if you do not reset the service intervals?
Ignoring maintenance reminders will not cause damage, but may cause the following problems:
- The ECU will calculate oil wear using old data, which can lead to premature engine wear.
- The service may refuse warranty repairs if maintenance is not confirmed.
- On some models Almera If the maintenance interval is exceeded by more than 2000 km, the control unit may limit engine power (for protection purposes).
Rare and specific icons on Nissan Almera
Some indicators only appear in specific situations or on certain versions Almera. They are often confused with other icons, which leads to incorrect actions.
Here are the rarest symbols that can be found on the panel:
- 🚘💨 Car with wavy lines behind - system malfunction
DPF(particulate filter) on diesel Almera 1.5 dCi. Forced regeneration or filter replacement required. - 🔥🚗 Machine with flame — excess temperature in the exhaust system (often appears when the catalyst is clogged).
- 🔄🔋 Circular arrow with battery - malfunction of the energy recovery system (on hybrid versions Almera for some markets).
- 🛡️ Shield with key — the anti-theft mode is activated (the immobilizer blocked the start).
On Almera N18 with system ProPilot Additional icons may appear:
- 🚗👁️ - The camera or radar of the adaptive cruise control system is dirty.
- 🚗🤖 - temporary system shutdown
ProPilotdue to a malfunction.
If the icon appears on the panel red with an airbag image and an exclamation mark (🪦⚠️), this indicates malfunction of the SRS system (airbags). In this case:
- 🔹 Airbags may not work in an accident.
- 🔹 Self-repair is prohibited - service diagnostics are required.
- 🔹 A common cause is a broken wiring under the seat or a faulty fuse.
If on Almera After an accident or battery replacement, the airbag icon comes on, do not ignore it! Even if the airbags did not deploy in a crash, the system could have been damaged and the airbags could deploy spontaneously the next time.
How to reset errors and icons on the panel Nissan Almera
Some indicators can be reset independently, without visiting the service. Let's look at the most common methods.
Method 1: Reset via battery
Suitable for resetting temporary errors (for example, after replacing the battery or a power surge):
- Stop the engine and remove the key.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Wait 10–15 minutes (this time is needed for the capacitors in the ECU to discharge).
- Reconnect the terminal and start the car.
Method 2: Reset via diagnostic connector
You will need an adapter for this ELM327 (costs about 500–1000 rubles) and a smartphone with the program Torque Pro or Nissan DataScan:
- Connect the adapter to the connector
OBD-II(located under the steering wheel). - Launch the program, select
Nissanin the list of brands. - Go to section
Errors (DTC)and pressErase. - Stop and restart the engine.
Method 3: Resetting service intervals
We have already described how to do this in the section about service icons. Let us remember that on Almera N18 the reset is performed through the multimedia menu, and on Almera G15 - mileage reset button.
⚠️ Attention: If after resetting the errors through ELM327 icons appear again, this means the problem is not resolved. In this case, in-depth diagnostics in the service are required.
On Almera with the system NissanConnect Some errors can be reset through the car menu. To do this, go to Settings → Diagnostics → Reset errors. However, this method does not work with all fault codes.
Frequently asked questions from owners Nissan Almera (FAQ)
Why is the Check Engine light on the dashboard, but the car drives normally?
This is one of the most common situations. There can be many reasons:
- 🔹 The gas tank cap is not tightly closed (check if there is any air whistling when opening).
- 🔹 Problems with the oxygen sensor (lambda probe) - often fails after 100,000 km.
- 🔹 Clogged injectors or poor quality fuel.
- 🔹 Breakdown of high-voltage wires (check in the dark - sparks will be visible).
If the icon is flashing, this indicates misfire, which may damage the catalyst. In this case, it is better not to postpone your visit to the service.
What should I do if the ABS and ESP icons come on after washing?
Most likely, water got into the ABS sensor connectors located on the wheel hubs. Proceed like this:
- Drive 5–10 km at a speed of 50–60 km/h - sometimes the sensors dry out on their own.
- If the icons do not go out, check the connectors for moisture (you can blow them with compressed air).
- If the problem remains, diagnostics with a scanner is required (the contacts may have oxidized).
On Almera with the system VDC (electronic stability control) icon may light up after washing cars with wavy tracks (🚗💨). This is normal - the system will recalibrate after 1-2 trips.
Can I drive if the battery icon is on?
Short answer: you can, but be careful. This icon means that the generator is not charging the battery and the car is running on battery power. How far you travel depends on:
- 🔹 Battery capacity (on Almera usually 60–70 Ah).
- 🔹 Loads on the on-board network (lights, stove, music).
- 🔹 Driving style (frequent stops drain the battery faster).
On average, the power reserve is enough for 30–50 km. If the icon lights up at night, disable all unnecessary consumers (headlights, heated seats) and go to the service center.
A common reason is broken alternator belt or voltage regulator malfunction. Check also the fuse F30 (10A) in the block under the hood.
Why does the oil light come on when cold and then go off?
This is a typical problem for Nissan Almera with mileage over 100,000 km. Reasons:
- 🔹 Thickened oil (especially if it hasn’t changed for a long time).
- 🔹 Oil pump wear — when cold it does not create the required pressure.
- 🔹 Oil pressure sensor malfunction (often “glitches” in the cold).
What to do:
- Replace the oil with a synthetic one with a viscosity
5W-30or5W-40(recommended for Almera). - Check the oil level on a cold engine (should be between
MINAndMAX). - If the icon continues to light, replace the oil pressure sensor (costs about 500–800 rubles).
If the problem is in the oil pump, it will need to be replaced (from RUB 5,000 including labor). Repairs cannot be postponed - Driving with low oil pressure kills the engine quickly.
How to turn off the door ajar beep on Almera?
Many owners Nissan Almera complain about an annoying squeak when the door is open or the trunk is not tightly closed. There are two ways to disable it:
Method 1: Through the menu (for Almera N18)
Настройки → Звуковые сигналы → Сигнал открытой двери → Выкл.
Method 2: By turning off the beeper (for Almera G15)
- Remove the plastic trim under the steering wheel (unscrew the 2 screws
Torx T20). - Find the black block with the beeper (usually to the right of the steering column).
- Disconnect the connector or wrap the buzzer with electrical tape.
After turning off the signal, remember that you will no longer hear a warning about an open door or turned on headlights!
